The Alpha Dragon's Secret (Dragon Shifters of Kahului Book 1) Page 10
Right now, he was content to be here with this woman and his child. When the time was right, he would take them home and introduce them to all the wonders of his world.
He didn't question if it was still there. He could feel it was, though it was most likely hidden from human view now.
Sara's mouth opened in surprise. She held out her hand and he slid the ring on her finger. It pulsed once with vivid golden light and went quiet upon her hand.
"It's beautiful," she said.
Every time she turned those hazel eyes to him, he felt his heart skip a beat. He was unsure how he'd gotten so lucky, but when she was near, he felt whole, complete. Something had always been missing in his life. Until he woke up in that pod and knocked on her door, he had no idea what it was.
Sara admired the ring on her finger.
"I will protect you, our child, any future children, and anyone you love so long as I live," he said. "You have my word. I will cherish you and love you. You will never want for anything."
Sara brushed her lips across his. "You've made me feel love in ways I never knew were possible. I've been looking for you forever. I just didn't know it until you crossed my threshold and started ordering me around."
Daegal chuckled.
"I will be your wife," she said. "And I will be your partner. I will fight by your side to keep us all safe, and I will love you for the rest of my days."
Daegal had not yet told her about the perk of immortality. He'd been sitting on that one for a while.
"I adore you, Sara," Daegal whispered.
"And I, you, Daegal," Sara whispered back.
He had finally found what his parents had, a love that would surpass time and space. A love that would stand up to challenges, come what may. The danger they were in was not yet over, but together, he knew they would be able to face it and defeat it. Ludovic would not win. Not while he and his dragons walked upon the Earth.
For the first time in his life, he felt complete. It was an odd feeling, but now he knew why his parents had fought so hard to be together. Once he had the feeling of love from her, once he'd held her in his arms, he knew he would tear down the heavens and the world to keep it.
Daegal pulled Sara closer. She set her tea mug down on the table and straddled him. Sara took his face in the palms of her hands.
"I cannot begin to express to you how much I love you," she said. "Although I'll be angry forever about you leaving me, I now know why. And know this. If you ever try to leave me again, I will hunt you down and make you pay for it."
Daegal's heart was full of love for her, this little spitfire. "I hope you do, Sara. My life is not worth living if you are not in it. I promise you this, I will do my best to never leave your side again."
He drew her in for a kiss then, a soft brush of lips, that was quickly leading elsewhere. Daegal scooped her up, and Sara let out a breathless little laugh.
"I hope we have twelve children," he said as he carried her back to the bedroom.
"Slow your roll, Daegal. Let's just enjoy the practice, first."
Daegal's rich, deep laugh rumbled across the house as he kicked open the door to her bedroom. "Aye," he said as he gently laid her down upon the soft sheets. "Practice first."
